Guided Tour

SKELETON COAST SHIPWRECK & GIANT WELWITSCHIA

A journey through time, shipwreck stories, and the silent endurance of the desert.

Full day tour

The Skeleton Coast has long been known as one of the most mysterious and unforgiving shorelines on Earth, a place where ocean fog meets endless desert, and where ships have come to rest in quiet surrender. On this full-day journey, we travel approximately 600km to explore its stories, landscapes, and stark beauty.

As we make our way north, the coastline tells its own tale: shipwrecks half-buried in shifting sand, rusted remains of an old oil rig, and the vast Atlantic stretching out in shades of steel and blue. It is a place where time feels slower, where every silence holds history.

Along the route, we stop to admire unusual conglomerate stone formations, sculpted by millennia of erosion, and pay a visit to one of the desert’s greatest survivors: the Giant Welwitschia mirabilis. This plant is ancient beyond imagination, some are believed to be over a thousand years old, thriving in a land where few things should be able to endure at all.

Further along, the tour brings us to the Cape Cross seal colony, home to thousands of Cape fur seals. The sight, sound, and presence of so many animals together on the shoreline is extraordinary and unforgettable. After time spent observing the colony, we enjoy a refreshing break at the Cape Cross Lodge and a visit to the Cape Cross Museum, before beginning our journey back to Swakopmund.

This tour is long, scenic, and deeply atmospheric, ideal for travelers who are moved by space, silence, and the quiet stories of landscapes shaped over ages.
