The journey to Sandwich Harbour begins in soft light along the coast a place where flamingos feed in shallow waters that shift gently from blue to rosy pink. The salt pans shimmer, the air feels wide and open, and the desert begins to rise ahead of you. Guided by an experienced driver, we travel deep into this extraordinary landscape.
The highlight of the tour is the place where the ocean meets the desert a dramatic line where rolling waves brush the base of towering golden dunes. Depending on the tide, we may follow the shoreline, ride the upper ridges, or take alternative dune routes. The driving is smooth, controlled, and scenic -exciting, but never rushed.
As the dunes open into the Kuiseb Delta, the landscape softens again. Here, oryx, springbok, ostriches and other desert-adapted wildlife appear almost like quiet silhouettes against the sand, moving slowly through one of the most ancient ecosystems on earth.
